[edit]This article, like the one for Nivek Ogre, suffers from serious pretension and NPOV problems. First, Goettel did not singlehandedly create the genre of audio sculpture "which had previously gone unimagined." Edgar Varese is rolling in his grave and countless living musicians have burning ears. Second, he is not generally known for his classical compositions, if these exist at all. Labeling him a "late twentieth century classical composer" is a stretch when if anything he was a late twentieth century pop musician. Third, there is no evidence that anyone, apart from the article author(s), "studied, emulated and revered" much of DRG's music. It is a fact that he almost always performed with cEvin Key and each person's particular musical contributions are rarely discernible, especially in Skinny Puppy's thick mixes. Fourth, his work (especially the non-existent classical work) is hardly "amongst the pivotal musical accomplishments of his era." Skinny Puppy is an influential electronic band and DRG shares some of the credit for that, however we should not overstate his influence.
In short, this article reads like it was penned by a devoted fan wishing to inflate the facts.
- You're right about almost all of that, but actually it's often possible to pick out synth lines that are clearly Goettel's -- listen to the first three tracks on the Doubting Thomas album, then the Sister Machine Gun song "Night Returning" (with Goettel guesting), then Bites (pre-Goettel), then Mind: T.P.I (Goettel's debut with Skinny Puppy), and you'll have a template for telling Key and Goettel apart. Tried to give the article more factual substance while turning down some of the fanboyishness. Logickal
DRG had a way of creating sounds that few artists attempted to do. Although his sounds came from a dark and creepy and thickly textured place he was able to manipulate frequencies using analogue keyboards which were revolutionary at the time. The introduction of the keyboard by such bands as Kraftwerk, Throbbing Gristle, Joy Division, even Isao Tomita ( not to mention many creative minds which cannot all be listed for the sake of space )and the whole electronic movement of the 60's, 70's and early 80's was a phenomenon unto it's own. The keyboard and it's relationship with the minds of these artists is the creating factor here. Macimus Cornelius (talk) 07:43, 13 October 2018 (UTC)
Dwayne Goettel seemed to use pain or "dark" emotions as a source of the creative process known according to Skinny Puppy as Brap(to get high and jam). Because of this particular style of music he, unfortunately, was not recognized for his musical talent. Macimus Cornelius (talk) 05:10, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

Someone should really add a section regrading his death. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8800:6800:3F00:416E:C66C:821C:E732 (talk) 22:35, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
