Massachusetts Route 62 map
[edit]I like the map, except that it doesn't match the ones I have made in that it doesn't follow the guideline at WP:USRD/MTF#Standards which calls for an aspect ratio of 1.7:1. Also, you are using a solid black line for town boundaries when it should be "0.5x dotted #828282", substituting "town" for "county" in the standards table. Optionally, I think it is a good idea to include the starting and ending route intersecting roads, in the case of Route 62 those are Route 32/Route 122 in Barre and Route 127 in Beverly - see the map at Massachusetts Route 60 as an example.
You should redo the map, and any others you've started, to maintain consistency with the maps already done. There are an awful lot of roads to go, and your help here is very much welcome. Please drop me a line if you need any help or want to comment. Sswonk (talk) 17:50, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Setting the aspect of the PNG output is not possible in QGIS directly. It appears to simply take a screen shot of the map image on the screen at the time. I am using a MacBook which displays at 1280 x 800 and then you have the chrome of the OS and QGIS to consider. At any rate, what I do is close the legend display on the left, save as PNG and then use GIMP to crop the image. GIMP and Photoshop will let you set the marquee to 1.7:1, closing the legend gives a ratio that is closer to that than with it open. Generally you want the highest resolution possible, so finding a zoom scale in QGIS first may take a couple of tries. Good luck, and please let me know if you have any questions. Maps
[edit]Schzmo, I love the maps that you've added recently (Schaghticoke Rensselaer NY.png, for example). Such maps show the shapes of municipalities and give a better sense of where towns and villages are, as opposed to those "pushpin" maps that cover the whole state and show only a dot for the location. Any chance you will be making a map for Warren County, New York? --JBC3 (talk) 02:35, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
The Graphic Designer's Barnstar | ||
For all the hard work you've done creating county maps, I'd like to award you with this Graphic Designer's Barnstar! Your contributions truly enhance the Wiki experience, allowing readers to see administrative locations as more than just a dot on a map. Thanks again, and I look forward to your future contributions! JBC3 (talk) 21:50, 14 March 2009 (UTC) |
- I, too, am very happy and impressed with your recent additions of these maps in Rensselaer County related articles. One issue though: the map is stretched in the E-W direction. Any way to fix that? See the svg on the right for an example of how the county is truly shaped. I won't even consider removing the images though; their value far outweighs this minor fault. Thanks again, and hopefully there's a solution to this stretching issue. ~ ωαdεstεr16♣TC♣ 19:26, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not to nag, but is there any update on the stretching situation? ~ ωαdεstεr16«talkstalk» 04:58, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- I've included a comparison of the image after I took a crack at it (which I assume I can do — correct me if I'm wrong — because the image is released to the public domain by Schzmo). Resizing the image isn't a problem, except that I don't know how to do it without compromising image quality (see full size image). It also appears a little bit taller here because I didn't leave as much "buffer" space between the county edge and the edge of the image. --JBC3 (talk) 03:16, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Looks good. Not sure why you lost quality there... weird. Thing is there's another umpteen that must be updated so all the RensCo entities are shaped right. ~ ωαdεstεr16«talkstalk» 03:59, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit]You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:33, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Rhode Island maps
[edit]They look great! I'd like to compare notes, so I'm wondering how you're making them. I get the GIS shapefiles and plug them into QuantumGIS, export them to SVG, and then clean them up in Inkscape. Category:Road maps of Iowa has a bunch of the maps I've made. I didn't make all of those, but a signficant number of them.
Anyway, great work and I hope to see more of it! –Fredddie™ 03:29, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Schzmo. I hope you are doing well and staying safe during these times! Apologize to bother and posting a random request. I have just started to work on a stub (Fontainea Venosa)and had added some sections. Knowing your expertise, I would love if you can help me to review and left a comment on what I can do to improve my edits. Would you be able to help me to provide feedback and help me out to add a geographical distribution image in the infobox as it seems to be your expertise? But no pressure if you are busy. That is completely fine and understandable :) Hope to hear from you soon. The article is Fontainea Venosa
