Family past
[edit]Does anyone know if Sir Alan has any connection to previous Admirals of the past, who are also called West. There were three Admirals of the family, viz. Temple West, Vice-Admiral of the White and Lord of the Admiralty, his son Thomas, Admiral of the Royal Navy, and Sir John West, G.C.B., also an Admiral. Please contact lvtwest@hotmail.com if you have any info
Advertising
[edit]The last two paragraphs, talking about the Chancellorship sound like advertising for the university. Propose that they are edited to an appropriately neutral tone.
- I have edited the university extract and expanded the rest of the article LordHarris 23:32, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
Should the last section have a different title? 'Recently' just doesn't feel right with me, it's not how you'd expect the article to be in a more permanent form. Perhaps something like 'Post-Naval Career' would be more suitable?
- This has been amended. Dormskirk (talk) 20:49, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Move
[edit]- Discussion about moving Alan West to Alan West, Baron West of Spithead. See Wikipedia:Requested moves#Incomplete and contested proposals. Anthony Appleyard 05:49, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes this needs to be done soon, as a life peer his peerage should be in article title. I don't know why all this has taken so long! I will revert page to redirect until this is done. --UpDown 08:38, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't heard any objections to the page being under the new title Alan West, Baron West of Spithead. There is already a version in the history that has everything correct, and has a complete edit history. That version was created by Anthony Appleyard on 11 July. In my view, all that is needed is for someone (preferably Anthony, since he is the administrator who took on this task) to revert the article back to that version, and we will be done. Of course Alan West will need to be a redirect to this one, which it was in this version of July 11 until Anthony got the impression that people didn't support the rename. - The version just created by User:Proteus looks correct. I think the move is finished. He took away all the history under the Alan West redirect, which I guess is normal. EdJohnston 22:15, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Papers walking dogs??
[edit]Regarding the papers that were left on the canal towpath, the article says, "He explained that they had fallen from his coat pocket whilst walking a friend's dog." I have to say, I wouldn't have thought it possible for a bunch of papers to have a friend, or to walk that friend's dog--or any dog, for that matter! Uporządnicki (talk) 14:16, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
