Release date confusion?
[edit]Can we correct, clarify, or remove some of the sections of this article that talk about the game's release date? Because they're all over the place!
The first para says 1991, and the infobox says September 1991, but then we get:
- "Civilization was released in early 1991" at the end of Development at MicroProse (completely uncited)
- Reception cites a preview of the game published in December 1991!!
Surely they can't all be true?! --MysteriousBoron (talk) 10:06, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, checking the sources: the one used for "early 1991" in fact does not mention "early", just 1991. The other, the one that is giving its preview, that's citing the date that's stamped onto the magazine, which was probably mailed out well before Dec 1991, so that's just awkward language, the date doesn't need to be in that sentence. Sept 1991 is likely correct but I'm going to try to double check that. --Masem (t) 14:17, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
- And to just confirm, I walked though some issues of CGW and it was clear that by the time CGW hit that Dec 1991 issue, the game was already out and they were reviewing it, not previewing it, (which at that time in the industry was an oddity). --Masem (t) 14:38, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Release date
[edit]I think that release date of this game was earlier than in September 1991. The game was thorougly reviewed in many magazines in June 1991 and other sources state that the game was released in April 1991.

I think it would be better to erase September from the release date and leave only the year. Mailman2006 (talk) 05:48, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
