2004 & 2005 posts
[edit]It was a bad idea on my part early this year to organise this page into a public/private break-up... a sector breakdown would be much more efficent as other national company lists have demonstrated, I will now try to reorganise this page. --CGorman 20:47, 23 Jun 2004 (UTC)
One thing I want to do with this page is to change this "quoted on ISEQ / FTSE" to "ISE" and "LSE". The ISEQ Overall Index and FTSE-100 are not stock exchanges! They are weighed indexes of shares on stock exchanges, in this case the Irish Stock Exchange and London Stock Exchange. You list a company on a stock exchange, not an index of shares! Plus if one just says "FTSE", is one referring to the FTSE-100, FTSE-250, FTSE SmallCap or FTSE All Share? The same could be said for "ISEQ", it usually refers to the ISEQ Overall Index, but it could also refer to the ISEQ General or ISEQ Financial... --Rdd 17:40, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

- http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Irish_companies&diff=20578913&oldid=20540386 better now, I hope. Going to continue pissing around with this article for a while yet, probably... --Kiand 23:24, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
ISE, etc
[edit]Being listed on stock exchanges is no longer a notability criteria (see WP:CORP), so the entries on this list with no article but quoted as being on the ISE ought to be removed. I have left for the time being. Marasmusine 08:23, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]Several of the companies on this list give no indication of notability, with next to nothing turning up searching Google. Looks to me like they're merely using wikipedia for promotional purposes. The companies I looked at were: RevaHealth.com, Curam Software, DemonWare, and Bua Training. I've removed these from this list. I nominated RevaHealth.com for deletion, and it was promptly speedily deleted! I'll avoid doing that for the rest, to give a chance to the editors to add notability. Looking at the category of software companies in Ireland also turns up CREMe Software, Digi-Sign, Koelo, Mapflow, and TangoTelecom. --Bardcom (talk) 16:32, 26 May 2008 (UTC) What about "dac"? Some of the companies have re-registered as dac and are not ltd anymore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.71.194.46 (talk) 15:43, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Split
[edit]Should we consider splitting this list into RoI and NI versions? Otherwise it's a bit weird, esp since this shows up in various "by-country" categories and Ireland (island) is not a country.--Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 16:20, 15 April 2013 (UTC)
Company Additions
[edit]Should Eaton should be on the list? They are based in Ireland now. http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/OurCompany/AboutUs/CorporateInformation/FastFacts/ 66.57.15.46 (talk) 02:51, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Proposed list format changes
[edit]If anyone is watching this page, I'd like to discuss reformatting the article into a common format used by most of the "List of companies of (country)" series, similar to List of companies of France. I've converted about 95% of the lists, but I've avoided several of the larger ones since it's going to take a good amount of effort for each one.
The changes would include:
- Adding a short section with a list of just the largest companies based on the Fortune Global 500,
- Filling in a few missing active companies (Johnson Controls, for example, is now based in Cork) and defunct companies (Covidien),
- Re-categorize sectors by the Industry Classification Benchmark taxonomy,
- Add each firm's headquarters and founding date into a sortable list, and
- Color codes to entities if they're defunct or state controlled
One other change I'd like to propose is dropping anything that does not have a specific article for the entity based in Ireland. Notable subsidiaries such as Intel Ireland and BT Ireland make perfect sense, but items like Starbucks are a bit of a stretch and it dilutes the purpose of the list.
Any thoughts?Kuru (talk) 20:41, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
