Draft Statement
[edit]Concerning the mediation requested by the Arbitration Committee regarding User:Anthony DiPierro and a number of other users:
Although the members of the Mediation Committee have been willing to conduct a mediation and have solicited possible participants, to date no one has stepped forward to be a second party. As it has been the committee's experience that attempting to conduct a mediation discussion with only one party has not been successful, it seems best to wait until there are additional parties willing to participate. Anthony has demonstrated his willingness to mediate; but his adversaries have not. Until they do, we must consider Anthony a Wikipedian in good standing, and any comments to the contrary a demonstration of incivility.
The Mediation Committee is more than willing to mediate this case if and when anyone comes forward with specific concerns.

On behalf of the Mediation Committee

- Thank you, mediators and mediatee(s) alike. Mediation is much harder than arbitration, and I'm proud to be associated with Wikipedians of this caliber! --Uncle Ed 12:12, 17 May 2004 (UTC)

- llywrch -- I approve this statement, but since I'd like to voice an opinion, I'm posting here.
- I am reminded of the statement of countless adults as they settled fights when I was a child: "It takes two to tango!" In other words, while Anthony may not be blameless, for mediation to work, there must be 2 parties willing to participate. Anthony has demonstrated his willingness to mediate; but his adversaries have not. Until they do, we must consider Anthony as a Wikipedian in good standing, & any comments to the contrary a demonstration of incivility.
- I second that comment. SweetLittleFluffyThing
- I've added in the last two sentences of this as it seems to have general agreement. I think the other point of needing two parties for mediation is covered already. If there are no objections over the next 24 hours then I will pass this on to the arbitration committee. -- sannse (talk) 19:49, 15 May 2004 (UTC)

I've put this at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Anthony DiPierro, Wikipedia:Requests for mediation and User talk:Anthony DiPierro. If anyone thinks it should go elsewhere too, let me know. -- sannse (talk) 21:05, 16 May 2004 (UTC)
